Unfinished Thought On "The Power Of The Tongue"

My people… This is a journey into my mind. This is not a professional outlook on the topic, only my opinions. My only wish is that you can read something here and maybe apply it to your own life if you need to. If at any point of this blog entry you feel that I have not elaborated enough, please feel free to comment below, email me, Facebook, twitter etc…

The tongue. Some say it is the most powerful organ that we have. While I'm no scientist I have come to the conclusion that it very well may be. Especially when it is fused with the mind, the spirit, and emotions that course through us.

I feel that humans were created to coexist. To love one another. To be each others strength when we don't feel as strong. Yet, somewhere throughout our childhood, we learn how to be mean to others. How to belittle, to bully, and to envy. Not only are those things enough to shake the foundation of the original plan for us… we choose to ACT upon those negative traits.

Everyday we watch the news, cartoons, and primetime sitcoms and we absorb and exert that behavior upon our neighbors. Not just neighbors in the sense of next door, the countries we neighbor. The religions and the lifestyles that we share this planet with. But instead of taking the positive things that we see in the world and duplicating them, we deliberately choose to do the opposite. If even half of America did at least one unselfish act for their neighbors daily, you could probably feel the change in the atmosphere.

So lets dig into the topic. The Power Of The Tongue.

To me, the tongue is a beautiful thing. It serves the purpose of so many things. Imagine how your life would be today if we did not have the ability to taste. That's something I wouldn't trade for the world. We use it to sing when we are happy, cry when we are sad, and some even use it to show affection. I sat back for a minute and thought… Why were we given the tongue? Since I don't have a religious preference, it kind of just left me there wondering. But I believe in my lifestyle as a religion. "Good Will, Good Ways, Good Life." Which eventually made me ask myself these questions.

Why do we say things to intentionally harm others?
Why is it so easy for us to give a negative opinion rather than positive feedback?
Why aren't we open minded as a people when we acknowledge daily that no two people are alike?

I would love to think that it is just a phase. But the longer you do things, it becomes a habit. And if you carry a habit through your life it becomes a lifestyle. I think that negative people are the way that they are because they never really take the time to look within themselves and identify the trouble. The trouble could be insecurities. It could be that they are lonely or misunderstood. And to me the only cure for that is love. Not just hugs and kisses, but a simple hello with a smile would do great things.

Just using your tongue to say "Hello"… could make someone who NEVER speaks to anyone reply with, "Hi." That one simple action could have saved that person from thinking that no one ever noticed them and maybe life isn't so bad. Then that person may keep walking and do something positive for a person less fortunate than them. But deeper than that… what if that same person picked up the phone and mended a broken relationship? Now they don't feel so lonely. Now they don't mind waking up in the morning. Even better, now that person says hello to people at work! Now people at the job are starting to notice this person. They become more active in the workplace and maybe get promoted… I could go on and on… You just changed this persons LIFE! All with the power of the tongue.

But instead… sadly our people don't do that. We blow by each other without saying a word. Hardly even saying excuse me. Now lets see that persons life in this scenario.

You walk by this person and bump into them. But instead of saying, "excuse me" you say, "HEY! Watch where you're going jerk!" Or you say, "What's your PROBLEM?" That person has already had another exhausting day at work where he is JUST another employee that no one talks to. Sometimes this person notices people whispering while walking by them. Now they feel as if there is no reason to live. There is no one to talk to because the only family that they had were pushed away during a fight. Later that night they can't sleep because they know that the only thing that will happen once their eyes shut is that alarm will be going off soon… Then it's back to that place that pays the bills. While lying there they eventually drift off. And sure enough that alarm goes off. But instead of getting up, they just continue to lie there.. motionless. Once they finally get the nerve to get up, they look at themselves in the mirror. They see nothing. There's nothing left.

I don't want to get to deep into that because maybe one of you readers are feeling the exact same way right now. And if you are I urge you to think everything through. Call anyone. Hell, CALL ME! I will not hesitate to talk to anyone who feels like they are coming to the end of their rope.

But that is a PRIME example of what kind of negative and positive effect that could take place in a split second with our tongues. WE HAVE TO STOP ABUSING ONE ANOTHER! We cannot let people who don't even care about us control our destiny. I look at animals. Animals of all breeds. They way they care for their own. Brother and sisterhood. Parenting skills and protection. Morals and critical decision making. We could learn so much.

If I could just convince one person to say something positive when it is so easy to say something harmful, then I have fulfilled my task. But I will not be satisfied until the whole world does this. Maybe that means I will never be satisfied…but I know there are others out there who have the same thoughts. And if w could all just do ONE thing… Just say HELLO to a complete stranger. Everyday. Even though we may not see the change take place… we can always remain hopeful that it will show one day.
